In February 2020, the ACS joined with the American Red Cross to roll out a new campaign to raise awareness about the importance of blood donation for cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatment. The ACS estimates that cancer patients need almost 25 percent of all stored blood in the United States. The blood helps improve clotting and provide important building blocks, such as proteins and antibodies, to help the body remain strong during treatment.
The best way the public can help is by donating blood at American Red Cross centers. Financial support of the ACS and the Red Cross is also vital. To learn more about the campaign, visit givebloodtogivetime.org.
